Tickets Available - Feb 21st Show at the Black Hole Rock Club in B-more

Tickets are now available for our Saturday, Feb 21st Show at the Black Hole Rock Club in Baltimore, which is located at 216 German Hill Road, Baltimore, MD, 21222.  This is a very cool venue, and will also feature Loving the Lie, Halflit Halo, and When Gotham Falls.

Tickets are $7 for 21+, and for those that are 18+, tickets are technically $10, as the Black Hole charges a $3 additional surcharge at the door.  If you can, please purchase the tickets from our webpage, as if you pay the cover at the door, the venue takes all of the proceeds.  Also, we'll ship you the tickets for free, cause we're just cool like that.  ;)

You can find out more information about the Black Hole Rock club here...

and you can purchase tickets from Cassandra Syndrome on our tour page right here...

For those of you who can make it out, we'd really appreciate it, as this is a really good opportunity to establish ourselves in Baltimore, and the better the turnout, the more likely we'll get cooler places to play.  ;)  I'm sure we'll have a cool web flyer forthcoming, so keep an eye out for that soon.  Also, please feel free to plaster this all over the place, and whoever does the coolest plaster will be sent a free bumper sticker.

Lillypalooza 2008

Well, I’m starting to feel a bit recovered from my weekend. ;) Lillypalooza this weekend was a blast, I must say. Got to the store around noon, setup and started running sound at 2pm. [info]scorpionroseand I alternated at the board throughout the day until our set, which Cassandra Syndrome took the stage at roughly 9pm and we played until past 10pm, I think. Show went quite well, if I do say so myself…excellent energy between us and the audience, great stage banter, and we were all synched up and smooth, and all the transitions came off without a hitch. There’s something about really connecting with your bandmates, where it ceases to feel like you’re playing your part of the song, but rather you’re connecting into something greater, if that makes sense. Gods I love performing! :)

Anyhoo, you can check out some pics from the show by clicking on the picture, or by clicking right here…

In other news, I completed two new dirty mixes, specifically of PTSD and Cassandra, for our forthcoming album. So far we’ve got five songs nearing completion, with some minor tweaks, harmonies, or some backing vocals needed here and there before they’ll be ready to ship off to Tim Greencorn for mixing and mastering. I can’t wait, as even my dirty mixes are sounding awesome. Although, while singing along in the car this morning, I suddenly realized that I kinda sound like Ringo Starr when singing the word “bloody”. Hee hee… ;)

More show review is up in [info]cassyndrome...

Brass Monkey Show review...

Fun Cassandra Syndrome show at the Brass Monkey this past weekend. Irene’s got an excellent show review up at the cassyndrome community that you can check out by clicking right here

Highlights include excellent performances by the other two bands (Slattern and White Shadow) we played with, an awesome reception to our set by an audience composed entirely of people who’ve never seen us before (I think about half the audience bought CDs!), Irene had a “wardrobe malfunction”, and Chris was slightly electrified. To check out more pictures, click here or click on the pic…

Mixing Engineer? Check!

Last night I spent some time having preliminary talks with Tim Greencorn, a professional mixing engineer from Little Chicago Studios in Ottawa, about mixing the forthcoming Cassandra Syndrome album. Talks went very well, and Tim informed me that he’s in to do the mixes. Sweet! It’s all very exciting, I must say. Of course I did a fair amount of research, and Tim has an excellent reputation and has done some awesome sounding mixes, and has also worked with a few “label” artists that have had rotation on Sirius and XM. Very cool stuff, indeed!

I’m all hyper at work today, of course, and can’t wait to play the show at the Brass Monkey tomorrow night. I’m starting to wonder if the venues we play would take issue with the audience bringing hand drums. For some reason I find the idea of turning a bar into a giant drum circle at the end of ‘Wild’ supremely entertaining. ;)

Saturday Show!!!

We've got a show this Saturday night at the Brass Monkey in Baltimore. ;) Added bonus is that we'll be joined on stage by Slattern and White Shadow, so it'll be three hard rock/metal bands fronted by women! Hope to see some familiar faces in the audience if you can make it, and some new faces would be great, too, as we don't get out the Baltimore way all that often. You can snag tickets at our webpage right here...

ETA: Feel free to repost, it'd be much appreciated!  :)

Show Review

The Cassandra Syndrome show this past weekend at the Brass Monkey in Baltimore went pretty well, especially since it was our first time playing at the venue. [info]irenejericho’s got a good review of the show up in the [info]cassyndromecommunity. I have to plug their sound techs, as we threw them a pretty wicked curveball from what they’re used to, and they adapted and overcame quite admirably. That said, we’ll be making some tweaks to our live sound setup that should make things run a lot more smoothly when we play there again in August. That should be a fun show, as we’ll be playing with at least two other female-fronted heavy acts. :)

Probably the best reaction to the show was the one sound tech, who approached Chris and I immediately after the show and asked where Irene had gotten her vocal training (Jennifer Waters, btw), and that he thought she was the best soprano he’d ever heard. Not too shabby a compliment, particularly from a sound tech that sees tons of bands each week, I must say. :) I think some of TDP’s tweaks to get Irene to showcase her voice a bit more must be paying off. ;)

Now it’s back to the recording schedule until the next show at DC Midnight on July 26th, so hopefully we’ll be getting a lot accomplished with the album in the interim. My next project is getting a sub-woofer wired into my studio monitor setup.

Monday Morning Hangover...

Had a pretty good weekend. Got the Element back and it seems to be in good shape, and it ran smooth all the way back from Pittsburgh. Got to spend some time with my family, which was cool. Yesterday we had a good Cassandra Syndrome practice, which we followed up with grilling out for [info]irenejericho’s Dad’s birthday…which was then followed up with lots of beer and wine and a mild hangover this morning. Oh well… ;)

On the subject of music, the demo mixes I’ve been working on are on hold for a little while, as Joe’s getting new high-end pickups for his bass, and we’ll be going back and re-recording his lines. Since we’ve got the show at the Brass Monkey this Saturday (tickets are available for $5, and there’s a “Buy Now” button right on the front page of the CS website…hint hint, nudge nudge), we’re postponing the equipment upgrade until after the show. I’m hoping that we’ll be able to make a new rough mix or two available sometime shortly thereafter.

While the final mixes will be done professionally, I’m really excited to get some rough mixes up on the site, as I think even with my limited mixing skills, they’re sounding excellent so far, although, admittedly, the drums may have been a bit loud on the first pass or two… ;). We’ve been really taking our time with the recording process, and I think it’s made a tremendous difference with the quality of the recordings. The obvious example being that while the bass sound is decent, we decided that since it has become such a signature part of the sound now that there’s only one guitar, the best option was to upgrade the equipment and really make it sound good and be able to cut through the mix. If I’m able to make these recordings sound this good, I can’t wait to see what someone that does this for a living can do with them! :)

Guess that’s all the news that’s fit to print. Can’t wait until the show this weekend! :)

Off to see the Wizard...

Well, tomorrow we're off to Pittsburgh to finally recover our 2008 Honda Element that got rear-ended back on March 14th by an 18-wheeler.  While I'm disappointed it took so long for us to get our car back, I'm vaguely relieved that we'll be getting it back in time for our show next Saturday at the Brass Monkey in Baltimore.  Wish us luck and that the insurance company doesn't try any new ways to screw us over.  :)

And tomorrow night is getting drunk and watching the Stanley Cup Finals with my family in Pittsburgh!  Yaaaayyyy!!!

Re-breaking the ice…

Yeah, I know, I haven’t posted in forever and a day.  Or six months.  Take your pick.  ;)

Anyhoo, it just seemed like the longer I didn’t post, the harder it became to explain what all has been going on, and there’s been a lot going on. So I kept putting it off.  Now I’m thinking I’ll just post and get it over with, and focus on what’s going to happen rather than what’s been going on. To see what’s been going on, I recommended reviewing [info]irenejericho’s LiveJournal.

New website for Cassandra Syndrome: http://www.cassandrasyndrome.com I started this a while back, and Irene came in and finished it. Sweet, huh? I think it looks more female-fronted hard-rock/metal social commentary music-esque than the old design. ;)

Also on the band front, we’re actively recording and working with producer-type like people from the Dreamscapes Project for the next album. I’ve got two tracks in a fledgling mixed state and am hoping to have “pre-release” versions on-line within the month. This is also particularly important now that we’re operating as a four-piece.

Last but certainly not least, we’ve got our first Baltimore club show coming up on June 7th at the Brass Monkey. Should be a lot of fun, we’re playing with some other very good bands, and we’re hoping to get a good turnout of people. We're pre-selling tickets at our website for $5, and they're charging $7 at the door.  Another reason to come is that I’m thinking about tossing a coin about whether to go regimental or not since I’ll be wearing the kilt again while sitting on my drum stool…

…kidding, kidding. I don’t want to get thrown out of the club for public exposure or anything. :)

Anyway, I’m going to start trying to post more often. Job’s good, people are good, I’m wearing Chuck Taylor’s at work today, and it does make me cool, mainly because it makes it easier to get through the metal detector without setting it off. :D  Woot!

NSVPA Samhain Ball, October 27th, 2007

As Irene mentioned on [info]cassyndrome, we've got the pictures up from the NYC Pagan Pride Day.  You can check 'em out by clicking the pic, or by clicking right here...

In other news, the NSVPA Samhain Ball is coming up in a couple weeks, on October 27th.  It'll be at the UU Church in Stephen's City, VA.  Costumes, music, dancing, all kinds of good stuff.  Keeping the theme from Irene's post, here are the top 10 (or so) reasons to come check it out.  ;)

10. This is our last show until Brigid's Faire in February.  Afterwards, we'll be focusing on recording for a few months.
9. We're adding some new danceable covers to the repertoire.  ;)
8. The debut of our newest tune.  :)
7. I've been threatening to wear spandex as part of my costume.
6. Joe's costume is going to be freakin' hilarious!
5. Irene's lost 15 pounds since August and is planning to be as naked as possible.
4. We're opening the show with 70's porn music. :D
3. Babysitting is available.
2. Irene's going to be as naked as possible.  Have I listed that one already?  Obviously that's a popular one for me.  ;)
1. This is our LAST SHOW TILL FEBRUARY.  Come on out, you know you want to.

NYC PPD Review!

Alright, quite the weekend, I must say.  As [info]irenejericho mentioned in [info]cassyndrome, we played the NYC Pagan Pride Day in Battery Park this past weekend, and it was much with the awesome.  Granted, there were some early bumps, like the generator used for power not working, but workarounds were found, like plugging into the little Food Kiosk near the space.

The show went very well, and we had an excellent audience.  My only regret?  That we didn’t bring more CD’s to sell.  We sold out of every single Cassandra Syndrome CD we brought with us, and had about 10-15 more people come up and ask for a CD after we’d sold out!  Cards with web addy were handed out, and hopefully most of ‘em will go to the webpage and purchase it directly from there.  That’d be very cool.  So, although it started off a bit bumpy, in the end, it was probably one of the best PPD experiences I’ve had playing one as a band, and that’s two years of doing this as CS and the three previous years playing them as Revel Moon.  :)  We should have pictures up sometime early this week!

Great way to end the PPD season this year, I must say.  Now it’s a month off before the NSVPA Samhain Ball on October 27th, which should be a lot of fun.  I just have to figure out what costume I’m going to wear.  ;)

Show Pictures and Baby Pictures

Yeah, I know, I haven't posted in a while.  Just been a bit burnt out on the internet, I guess.  Been keeping busy otherwise, though.  This past weekend, we went up to Salem, Massachusetts to play their Pagan Pride Day event.  The show went very well, we sold quite a few CDs, and it was a lot of fun.  There were some bumps, as outlined by Irene in the update on [info]cassyndrome , namely back problems for Joe, plane problems for BJ, I had some equipment fail at the beginning of the show and had to manually reprogram my setup for each song, and Irene followed up the show by getting very sick this week.  I think Chris came through unscathed, though.  :)

Anyhoo, we've got pics up from the show, which you can get to by clicking here, or clicking on the pic.

In other news, we got some new pics of mine and Irene's Goddess-Daughter, Isadora, sent along this weekend.  I really wished they lived closer than Arizona, I really miss her.  This pic, a "Destroyer of Worlds" pic, is my favorite...

Irene's got a whole bunch more Isadora pics up at her LJ, which you can find by clicking the pic or right here...

Last Night Update!

Well, had a good Cassandra Syndrome practice last night.  We organized and ran the sets for the Eastern Massachusetts and New York City Pagan Pride Days last night.  Everything ran pretty smoothly.  Afterwards we started screwing around with another new one, “Hell on Earth”, which is going to have quite the heavy industrial feel to it, I must say!

I’m kind of hoping we get some time in the next few weeks to work on new stuff.  Aside from “Hell on Earth”, we’ve got riffs, concepts, and lyrics for about four more new tunes, ranging from slow, trudgy Type-O Negative sounding stuff to something kind of sexy and earthy, to a cool odd time signature drum riff that I’m dying to incorporate into a tune.  We’ll have to see where it all goes, but I’m really looking forward to hammering on some new music.  :)  Writing and performing are both things that I love, but I think I might like working out new music a little bit more.  ;)

In other news, I just realized I need to update the pictures pages with the new photos from our show at the Ocean Drive Club and Lounge.  Hopefully I'll get that knocked out no later than this weekend.  Ooops!

Weekend Review, Upcoming PPD shows, and Local Wins Lottery...

Mmmmm, trail mix.  Maybe that’ll make up for all the beer I drank while Irene and I were visiting my parents’ this past weekend?

Had a great time this past weekend, though.  It’s always nice going up to my parents, as we get to slow down for a couple days, which is always nice.  It’s also nice coming back to a short(er) work week.  :)  Heh, first day back to work today, and already it’s Cassandra Syndrome practice tomorrow night to start getting ready for the Salem, Mass and New York City Pagan Pride Days coming up this month.

Interesting local news, I must say.  Apparently a local Pagan living up near Baltimore by the name Bunky Bartlett won the Megamillions lottery this past weekend.  Good for him!  I’m a bit surprised he went public about it, as I’m sure tons of people are going to be asking him for money now.  There most certainly is the temptation on my part to do the “hey, support the local Pagan musicians!!!” thing, so I can understand the motivation behind it.  I feel kind of bad for him, though, as I can only imagine how crazy life’s about to get for him.  I think if I won the lottery (which I’d have to buy a ticket first) I’d go the anonymous route.

It’ll be interesting to see how this infusion of money into the local Pagan/New Age community will affect everything.  Hopefully he’ll go and buy up some land, and it’ll result in more cool festivals or something (which we’ll happily play, of course), maybe a cool East Coast Burning Man or something like that, but I worry about the potential drama that might be forthcoming.  Is it wrong that there’s part of me thinking about Star Wars when the thought, “I’ve got a bad feeling about this,” crosses my mind?  *shrugs*

Still, many congratulations to him, and let’s hope that everyone can keep their temptations in check and let he and his family enjoy their winnings.

The Good!

Yeah, I think someone must have said that phrase, “May you live in interesting times,” to me concerning the past couple of days.  It’s been kind of a roller coaster, of sorts, so I think this is going to be a multi-post entry.  ;)  Nothing really bad has happened, mind you, but just some rather interesting events happening.

To begin with, the Good!  On Tuesday night we had a Cassandra Syndrome show at the Ocean Drive Club and Lounge.  First off, the downside…it was a Tuesday evening at a relatively new venue for live acts such as us, so it was a bit on the rough side concerning attendance.  That was kind of expected, though, and it was awesome to see those who came out anyway, even if they did have to get up early the next morning.  You guys rock!  :)

The upside?  Well, the venue is much with the awesome, very clean, big, high ceilings, nice décor and atmosphere, and a hell of a light system, as well as a nice spacious stage.  On top of that, we had an excellent show, the sound was very solid, and we had a great time.  The owner of Ocean Drive was very impressed with us, and repeatedly told us that this “wasn’t going to be the only time we played here,” as well as mentioning a bunch of times that the Ocean Drive could be our new “home” as a regular venue.  Of course, I’m not counting my chickens and all that, so we’ll see what comes of that.  Nevertheless, it was probably one of our better shows of the past season.  I really hope we get to play there again!  :)

...the Bad, and then some more Good! )
